This exam is specially designed for this certification to upgrade you certification from the previous one to this one. It is a lengthy exam as it is supposed to cover all aspects of the product under consideration.

Prerequisites

The candidate is expected to possess a basic understanding of certain products and methods to become authorized to this certification. The administrator should be well equipped with basic administration and management skills regard the product he is working with. He should also have experience with Websphere application server and JVM environments. The exam would comprise of 32 questions from which the candidate has to score a minimum of 26 to pass this exam. This high percentage required for passing is what makes it quite difficult. This exam will get expired by the end of August in 2014. It will be replaced by (C2040-929) IBM WebSphere Portal 8.0 Deployment and Administration Update.

Steps Involved in the Certification

This certification can be approached from two different paths. The first path will allow the candidates to upgrade from a previously acquired certification by just appearing in one exam. However, the candidates might also acquire this primary certification on purpose and appear in the required test to get this certification. The second path basically comprises of two different tests which must be cleared with the required score.

First Path:

1. Obtain the Certification IBM Certified System Administrator - IBM WebSphere Portal V6.1.

2. Clear the test C2040-910 IBM WebSphere Portal 7.0 Deployment and Administration Update.

Second Path:

1. Test C2040-920 IBM WebSphere Portal 7.0 Deployment and Administration

2. Test C2040-921 IBM WebSphere Portal 7.0 Migration and Support

Either the first path or the second path needs to be taken.

Validity of Certification

The certification will expire by the end of August 2014. After that the most current version of this certification would be IBM Certified System Administrator - WebSphere Portal 8.0. Those people whose certification will expire at that time will either have to apply for recertification or will have to acquire this latest certification provided by IBM.
