Red Hat Certified System Administrator exams checks skills of the candidates that how they perform the various admin related tasks in different environment and scenarios.
Who can do this certification
The certification is mainly designed for all the administrators to prove their knowledge. Different candidates who can go for the certification are:

Associated Exam
This certification requires a candidate to complete the associated test which are being introduced by Red Hat Company. One must complete Red Hat Administration I and II exams if you are a windows administrator and wants to go for RHCSA course. If you are a Unix Administrator or Linux Administrator then you need to clear RHCSA Rapid Track Course. These exams help candidate to gain knowledge in handling things in different scenarios. All these are the administrative related exams which needs experience and deep knowledge.
Prerequisites
There are no as such prerequisites for this exam. One needs to give the tests which are already mentioned in the above section. These are the tests which are being introduced by Red Hat and acts as a training path for the candidates who comes from different backgrounds.
For Windows Admin following are the two exams which helps you to clear the certification.
- Red Hat Administrator I (RH124)
- Red Hat Administrator II along with RHCSA Exam (RH135)
For Unix or Linux Admin:
RHCSA Rapid Track Course (RH200).
All the above mentioned test are not a pre-requirement. These are exams which help individuals to understand all the things and knowledge.
Examination Overview
For completing a certification, one needs to show their skill to become a Linux admin. For completing the whole certification process one need to study the following topics in details.
- Understanding of the essential tools in Linux
- Configuring local storage within a system
- Creating and configuring new file systems
- Deploying, Maintaining and configuring a Linux system.
- Managing user groups and security.
The above mentioned topics covers all the essential tasks which are being mentioned by a linux administrator without getting help of any other person.
After completing of the course, person able to perform all the tasks mentioned in the next section
- Handle files, directories by using essential tools.
- One learns to create storage by using partitions and logical volumes.
- Manage files and file attributes which includes permissions and access control list.
- Manage basic firewall and SE Linux configuration.
The exam for this certification consists of one half day session which includes questions from the above mentioned topics. This is performance test where one has to work on live machines rather than just answering to the questions. Once you complete you have to wait for your results which come direct to your email id within 3-5 working days.
Validity of the Certification
As we already knew that every Red Hat certifications needs to be upgraded after a specified interval of time. This certification also have an activation window of 3 years means your certificate is current for 3 years. After that time you need to recertify yourself by again giving the test with the updates being introduced in the syllabus.
Steps involved in the certification
The first step in a certification process is to find out the course in which a candidate needs to certify. After selecting the course, look into the various associated exams which are being linked with the whole certification. Start preparing for the associated exam by collecting study material from the net or by attending the training classes. Once individual is prepared for the exam he/she has go to a certified Red Hat Training Centre and give the test. This test is not a question answer test where you have to select only the answer. Rather one has to perform on the live machines. The result of the exams are not announced on the day you have given the exam, you will get to know the result within few days on your email.
